related notes:
When we all share a belief, we often take it to be true.
Beliefs that are shared by all members of a group may arise from a variety of processes:
1. The belief is true of the world
2. A common cause process gave us all the same belief
3. An aligning/synchrony process gave us all the same belief
4. A shared bias formed by the commonalities of our mind structure constrains us to see the same thing
Often scenarios when a belief appears to be unquestionably true, when a belief appears beyond questioning, and when there are disincentives for questioning a belief represent blind spots and are the most important to examine.
There are many delusions shared by all humans simply because we are humans. We cannot rid ourselves of these delusions, but we can become aware of them and what they hide from us. If we do this, then we can avoid exerting power on what we cannot see and we can trust that if we act with care we will be cared for in return.
